The key to spirit warfare is to be a hearer of the Word and a doer also. We often bring into our new lives with Jesus our old ways of handling the principalities and powers and rulers of darkness, and if we have been hurt in any way, we bring with us methods of destroying these very real enemies of the Kingdom which have nothing to do with how our God rids this world of them. We believe it right to go ahead of the battle and show that we are capable, in our own strengths, to rout the enemy. God, though, tells us that the Angel of the Lord camps around those who fear him, and delivers them. (Psalm 34.7) And there are countless more promises like this one found throughout Scripture. Yet, because we are attached to the way our fallen natures sought to right things before we found ourselves given the vision of holiness and oneness with our Creator, our first automatic response is to race out to face spiritual wickedness in high places. Us, new beings–babies, really–and them, seasoned warriors aeons old with lifetimes of experience. Logistically, there is no way that even one battle can be won by our own hands. Every time it has to be the Angel of the Lord, or we will lose, be crushed, and eventually succumb to apostasy, worse off by far than we were before we were called and chosen.
Obedience is the answer.
